Flowers of the week: Peppermint Carnations

Four months ago, I started getting myself flowers almost every week. This week’s flowers are from the 10th of November. I loved them then and still appreciate their beauty today. I can’t seem to part ways with them, another week to admire these beauties.

They are Peppermint Carnations.

They are so beautiful, looking at each pedal telling a unique story. I see the ones that are withering away as I appreciate the beauty and enjoyment they have given me. How can something as simple as fresh flowers on my vanity bring so much joy and peace into my life?

Before this, I realized that I had been slacking on my self-care, physically and mentally. Consumed by the world around me, I stopped putting myself first. A horrible trait that is very common among naturing women who put everyone above themselves. I know better as in all my years as a CNA ( Certified Nursing Assistant), I met women like me and used to beg them to do something for themselves before the burnout came to collect.

It is always easier to advise than to follow it.

The funny thing is when we start treating ourselves better, the people around us don’t believe it. For a month I bought flowers every week. Yet my mother refused to believe that I bought flowers for myself and insisted that someone else did.

This year has been a year of collection for me. The biggest lesson has been that;

People treat you the way you treat yourself.

I treated myself poorly, causing the people around me to do the same.
Lesson number two;

Just because people don’t treat you bad does not mean they are treating you well.

This week I hope you do something for yourself, even if it’s as simple as getting flowers to open your eyes to every morning.
